Hey Mike, appears to be a capacitor, look here and it's item 23, I think

http://www.ereplacementparts.com/delta-22785x-type-planer-parts-c-3275_3571_3599.html

I spotted something odd, though, in the list is an obsolete cap (looks like yours) an it says 250VAC, the replacement one, if you zoom up, says 125VAC. That's odd...

ok, i found the obsolete one on another site and it's almost half the price

http://www.toolpartsdirect.com/cgi-bin/schematic.cgi/delta/22-785X

i would probably take that to Grainger, if you have one close, or an electrical parts place and ask for the 500 microfarrad version that the first site says is the replacement but get the 250 VAC version

Does it look like the dual cap is a user addon or does it look stock? Can you take a pic of the place the caps live and where they go?

Here is the parts list on Delta, it shows 1 cap as well. What is the other cap say on it?

I can only imagine another cap if it was 3 phase but I am no expert. Tomorrow, I would call the tech line, that is given on the link above, and ask them what the heck is going on...

if you don't have a digital version of the manual, here it is

http://www.woodweb.com/images_forums_public/wnw/Delta_Planer_Manual.pdf

I cannot find a wiring diagram of that machine anywhere on the web, so I am at a loss. Are both caps the cylinder type, or is one a lima bean shape?

yep, it looks like it was made that way. I'd call them and email them a pic if they don't get it. One thing that I have wondered about is that the manual says T1, I was wondering if there was a later/earlier model that had undocumented wiring. Just a thought!
