I have saved my old Spruce Christmas tree ( my grandsons first real Christmas) and plan to make something out of it for my grandson. Just not sure what though. Its obviously limited to what i can make due to the amount of material. I was thinking some type of frame and create a first Christmas collage.
I plan on leaving it rustic ,not much re-sawing and I'm leaving the bark on. I've saved some branches with pine needles which I'll try to incorporate into the project, I'll also need a way to preserve the branches with pine needles (keep the needles from falling off)

I thought it was a neat idea and think he'll appreciate it when he's older. Has anyone done this before?

awesome idea
i'm looking forward to seeing the end result.
i agree that you'll probably be a bit limited in what you can build due to the amount of usable lumber you'll get from a Christmas tree. picture frame, shadow box, plaque...
