I recently finished a piece of furniture I made using a water based stain, de waxed shellac and about 3 coats of enduro var. I am happy with the finish but am wondering how to properly care for this piece of furniture in the future. Do I treat it with anything? Furniture polish? Or just leave it alone? Thanks in advance.

Probably for about the first two years all you need to do is dust it. Then every six months or so I would use a heavier wax such as Johnson Paste Wax or use lemon oil. It moisturizes the finish to help it not dry out.

Thanks Steve, so it would be pointless to throw a coat of paste wax on now?

I agree with CM. No wax. Applying wax create an on-going maintenance requirement on a finish that should not need any maintenance. A periodic quick wipe with a water dampened rag is all that's needed to keep it looking good.
