Hi everyone. I am a new member from Bowling Green, Ky. I am a sculptor, currently working with wood and metal casting. I am having trouble finding wood for carving in my area and was hoping to get some help. If anyone knows where to get butternut, or other wood that is good for carving, please let me know.

I was going to suggest a wood carving supply I have used in the past but it looks like they sold out to a place up in MA. See if you can find a wood carvers store up your way, I am sure they will have butternut. I usually use basswood, I like it better than butternut for carving.

Butternut grows from Tn. through Ky. and northward. It should be easy to find.

Did you make that carving? It's lovely. I've heard basswood is preferred by wood carvers.
