When I was young, there was always a spot for me in dad's workshop. My favorite place to be was always out in the garage with dad.

My son is only 8 months old - a little young to be bringing with me into my workshop. However, when he's old enough, I will be building him how own little bench and making a place for him to call his own in my shop!

I have a bench for my 4 year old opposite of mine. He asked for, and we made, a bench hook for him this weekend. His 2 year old sister helped. With my two helpers, it took quite a while as each took a turn drilling each screw hole with an eggbeater drill, counterboring with an auger bit and brace, then driving the screw with a Yankee ratcheting screwdriver. Great fun. And now my daughter can identify by name a drill, brace and screwdriver.

I'll post a picture when I'm home. His favorite part is of course the pegboard. He organized it himself.

My 6 year old son enjoys helping out. I made him a bench, got him a few planes (#4, couple blocks) an electric screw driver, Veritas gents X-cut saw, and some other basics. He loves planing and sawing. I'll have him saw parts for me to length, adding an inch for me to saw again later after he's not looking. He does pretty darn good. It's fun watching him work. I just recorded a video of him the other day, wish I could post it on here.

I always had my girls in there ,, they'd take all my scrap and power nail it into a leaning tower!

The problem when they ran out of scrap they'd take the parts and use them too,,

So for the new guys out there please listen!

Whatever you do,, don't fly off the handle and yell,,

And for gods sake don't wait for them to leave and salvage your parts back,

And god forbid you throw it away and they come looking for their masterpiece,,

You know the people who adorn the fridge with kids stuff,,
Somewhere in that shop you will have a fridge too

Congratulation on all you folk spending quality time in the shop with your kids. I never even had a shop when my 4 sons were growing but we spent time remodeling and making messes. I spent lots of time with the boys being their Scoutmaster - but having @ 30 Scouts to take care off, I never spent much time in the shop with them... still time well spent. Now my youngest is 27 - we have 5 grand daughters - and the "time" investment is paying us well. All 4 sons live within "commuting" distance and they all get along great. Life is good here

Yep, it's a Craftsman. After 30 years in the Air Force, Dad retired and got a part time job in the Sears tool department. It was his "fun" money, and he picked up quite a few things on clearance! :) I don't remember when he got this bench, but it's probably been at least 12-13 years.
