I apologize if I posted in the wrong section, but I wasn't sure the best place to post.
As you guessed by the title, I need some advice about lathes. Here is my issue, I don't have space or money for a lathe that will do what I need. I build drums, stave snare drums (https://www.facebook.com/DiamondDrumCo). Currently I use a router and some homemade jigs to get the results I am looking for, but I desperately want to get a lathe. I also would love to try my hand a turning bowls and pens as well. I really need a lathe with a 16-18" swing over, to handle bigger drums.
Does anyone have any advise on building a larger capacity lathe with a small footprint? Will this yet-to-be-created lathe be able to handle smaller projects as well?
I have a small (I think 3/4 hp?) 1750 rpm motor in a home made sanding jig, but I would happily re-purpose the motor for the lathe if I can figure it out. Any help is appreciated! Thanks in advance!
