My father and I, mostly him, made my first workbench at age six, so I know I was hammering nails before that,
It was done entirely with hand tools. He also made a small stool to sit on also. Years afterwards, "I got rid of it" for some reason, probably because by that time mom and I were moving all over Chicago and suburbs. He was visibly disappointed when he found out, but I didn't understand the sentimental value it meant to him.
Now that I have a son, I treasure the things we build together, whether it's woodworking, welding up a truck bed, even an entire truck restoration.
