Sorry it's been a while but have been really work busy AND It's hot/humid here, already been 100 and 95+ consistently, and no A/C in the shop. I did manage to turn this mesquite bowl- 8x5 in. The inlay is malachite/epoxy, there was initially an internal void. Finish is BLO-DNA-shellac.
Other piece is a potpourri container, cypress- with lacquer finish. 4 x4 in
I really like the bowl I need to try some of the inlay one of these days. Same here with the heat not quite that hot yet but close so I turn early or late now.
I was just thinking.... When you say shellac do you mean "shellac flakes" or shellac that is already mixed? The friction polish part is ort of throwing me off.
It's simple. The bowl is sanded on the lathe, and once it's where I wanted I use a rag to apply the mixture to the bowl while its spinning, hence "friction" polish. And it's liquid shellac outa the can.
There oughta be some videos & how to's on the net or this site.

I really like the bowls. It was 68 for the high here today but, we have already had a day in the low eighties...just like bragging, I just moved from St. Louis, MO., I know what the high temp and high humidity are like...hate them. ken
