larger bottom

I have just ordered 5 of these 1 13/16in x 7 1/2in high. Nice thick bottoms. FYI, the bottom is 1 13/16in. The top is a tad smaller. Odd.

Would it create a problem to have the bottom larger than the top? ie. a gap between the wood and the vase that water can rest?
