I'm not sure that you can. I've seen a lot of cedar logs in BC in the past 40+ years.
Never is the white sapwood more than 1" thick (and then it's rotten/buggy).
I recommend that you use basswood and lie through your teeth if ever asked about it.

Look for eastern red cedar, you may get lucky, I have some cedar at the house, I can let you know if I have any sap wood that would work for ya. ill post back here by Saturday.
