I am looking for plans for a steady rest for a lathe. I have a midi with an extension. I find that once I get around 2 feet or as a long item (baseball bat) get part way along, I need to support them to keep them from bending or wobbling in the middle.

So I'm hoping a steady rest can do that. and would like plans to build one.

Thanks

Don't be shy about posting your completed steady rest. It is good to hear when a build thread has been of use.

Cuertodoc used the thread to make his steady rest just last month.

As you are experiencing, with some spindle work, a steady rest is a very useful jig to have available. It can save a lot of problems with some spindle turning.

I created mine to help hold pepper mill blanks while drilling deep holes. Helped to keep the blank centered so I could get a better consistency hole diameter.
