Looking back, I must've sounded quite naive, which I am when it comes to carpentry and woodwork. Thanks for taking the time out to explain things clearly.
When I bought my first home, a new one in a new tract, it was a well seasoned carpenter that taught me that trick.
Here about 6 years ago, we had an addition built. We had to call the door guy back because the door was rubbing. He was going to plane the bottom of the door. (Fiberglass door) I told him to humor me and do the long screw trick. I even gave him the screw. After the door was fixed he told me that he didn't think that it would work.
We all have to learn some time.
