So i craiglist all the time, got my unisaw, router table, & powermatic jointer on there for good deals. Been looking for a good planer there for over a month now & just missed a Woodtek 15" for $300 OBO. I was sad for a while then told my self it wouldn't really fit in my 14x14' shop anyway w/ everything else going on. Decided I needed to find a good lunchbox planer & from everything i've researched the 735 Dewalt seems the best way to go, but man they're expensive for a lunchbox!
Home Depot has them online *and sold out for $479.00. Went around to the home depots here looking for one to see if they'd do it for the same price, all they carry in store is the 734 for $399.00. Was thinking man which home depot did i JUST see one of these in.. then remembered I'd gone to lowes for some screws the other day. Swung by looked & sure enough they carry the 735 for $599.00 in-store. I asked one of the employees wheeling a cart by if they price match Home Depot & he said "Yeah, we even beat the advertised price by 10%!" So I stole his cart, wheeled it to customer service & they somewhat reluctantly agreed to match the price of $479.00 & then after the additional 10% off it came to $431 before tax.
If you're in the market for one of these, try doing the same thing, just be sure you bring your smart phone in & have the page up for them to look at. The lowes package didn't have the extra blades & table extensions, but for the bare machine I still feel like i got a sweet deal & wanted to share w/ you guys how to go about it. The home depot special on line only runs through tomorrow, so get on it if you need one! Happy wood working!
