Hidden Deck Clips

1649 Views 3 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  Gene Howe
I'm looking for deck clips for a brand new deck. The clips I have found so far are made of plastic (not desired), and the reviews for metal types are negative. I am using 2x6 cedar with no groove. I'm not opposed to cutting slots with a router for fasteners, but is there a way to skip that step? If anyone has any info it'd help. Otherwise, I'm buying el brackets and screw screw screw screw......

Have you seen these?

I used them on a previous deck. They worked OK. When the deck got old, though, the spikes got a little loose and the boards would rock a little. This wasn't until the deck was failing on other ways, too.
I have no experience with it but kreg has a hidden fastener jig.

We used the Trex system. Very fast and no face screws showing. They are plastic, though. Deck is covered, so UV not a problem. They provide the router bit for the grooves, as well as the square drive for the screws.
As our deck material was a full 1.5" we couldn't use the Kreg system. I really wanted to though. Would have even be faster.
