Hi. I'd really appreciate any help I can get here; I'm trying to remove the spur on a used lathe I bought, and I'm having trouble working out how to do it. Seems that one would usually tap a rod through the spindle from the back, only there's no hole that goes all the way through to do this. Nor is there a way of locking the spindle that I've been able to find. The end of the spindle, after the gears, doesn't have a real place to attach a shifter – it only has one flat edge to it so my shifter doesn't grip right. Unfortunately I can't find a manual online as I imagine the lathe is pretty old.

Thanks again. Would love any advice and I've attached pictures...

That spur should unscrew. Put a wrench on the hex part of the spur, and put a wrench on the 2 flats behind the spur on the spindle. Those 2 flat spots on the spindle is how you lock the spindle with a wrench
