Can anyone identify what wood this is being made from, and what technique was used to get the burned wood look?

Thanks for the information... Now that I am back from vacation I might have to do some experimenting on some scraps to see if I can manage to get this type of affect.

I know, I was more joking about the O/A than anything. I don't like running straight Acetylene for any length of time, it puts off way too much soot. I'll try the hand held propane torch though, much cheaper to burn and easier to work with.

If that's what you have (O/A), that set up will work, as well as straight acetylene. You just have to have the right distance from the subject and have enough movement to minimize the possibility of igniting the wood.
