I'm headed to an auction to hopefully get some walnut. I've never bought wood at an auction, so wish me luck. I plan on getting there early to do my homework.

It didn't turn out like I had hoped. The ad said "1000s" of feet of walnut. This is what got my attention. It turned out to be maybe a couple hundred feet of scrap with a couple decent boards mixed in.

I picked up about 50 bdft of cherry. Nice stuff.

It was a good trip but a little disappointing.

Too bad. How far did you have to travel for it? Maybe someone came in before the regular auction started and placed a bid on the main lot of walnut? Who knows. That's the problem with these things, you never know what to expect until you get there, but hey, you came back with some nice cherry and I'm sure the trip was something to do.

I've had good luck finding lumber @ auctions, but it's definitely hit or miss. If the auction has a preview day or pics, that can help quantify it ahead of time
