I have around 1500 sq. ft. of eastern white pine (sq 4 sides) random widths that I am going to distress. I am going to start with a hand scraped look. Is there any advice on distressing and or hand planing in a manner that would be most efficient ?
This is probably more money than you will want to spend but it will be the easiest quickest way to give your floor the hand scraped look. Festool makes a planer with knives that will give your wood that handscraped look. Here is a link to the planer and acc.
As far as distressing I like to use a chain and a few other items that I would rather not mention but the key is to not have the same type of marks over and over on the floor. Make sure you have at least 4 different looking marks and spread them out. Hit the floor with different strengths to get either heavier or lighter marks which also will add to the character.
