I decided to make G and G styled clocks of my own design for each of our children. When they are completed the plans get tossed and they will have the only clock made by me with my design. Hope they like 'em and if they don't they better keep their mouth shut. Here's two photos of the first one. The white lines at the bottom of the one on the left is light glare.

I'm still working on the other six clocks, had no idea what I was getting myself into, but in the mean time I found a much better way of ebonizing wood. This article, http://www.popularwoodworking.com/techniques/ebonizing_wood explains the process in detail. I can tell you it works great. The dark brownish inserts on the clock are supposed to be black but they're not, obviously, which is why I tried a different approach and I'm real glad I did. I'll have pictures to post soon, I hope. I also went from oak to walnut. I think it looks a little more sophisticated that way.
P.S. The bark tea powder is available on the net, I just can't remember who I ordered it from. It's inexpensive and a two pound bag will last me a lifetime I'm sure.

Here is a picture of some of the walnut I ebonized using the process from Popular Woodworking ( http://www.popularwoodworking.com/te...ebonizing_wood). I did do some grain filling using Min-Wax stainable wood filler before I ebonized and the process worked well on the filler as well. I did wax the wood with two coats of black shoe polish. BTW the wood the ebonized pieces are sitting on is Walnut from the same piece of wood.

Al-Just the black shoe polish. When inserted into the dado's the entire clock will get two finish coats of furniture wax.
