What would be a good full size wood lathe for a begeiner? Have plenty of room in my shop.
Look through the Woodturning forum to see the discussions on lathe and starting out with turning.

First you have to ask yourself what you want to turn - spindle or bowls/platters.

Then let us know your budget. Full size lathes are thousands of dollars.

I have about $1500.00 too 2000.00 to spend already have the turning tools from my dad.
Your budget may constrain your search.

Look for used if you can find locally. In my area I do not often see full size lathes on e.g., Craigs List.

You may be looking at a Jet 1624 or NOVA 1624

This gives you an idea on the range of full size lathes and associated prices.

With that kind of budget you have a large range. First consideration is what you want to turn. I bought the harbor frieght lathe as my starter lathe and it has its problems but for $200 I didn't expect much. Once I get better i like the Jet 1221vs model simply because I'm finding that I like turning shorter projects like bowls and that model has a 12" swing. If I was doing spindles, stool legs or baseball bats I'd probably go a different route.
