My nephew wants me to build a shadowbox to display a 75th anniversary Ducks Unlimited shotgun he received as past state president. It will have a top opening lid and a glass front. The glass will be 52" x 13". I'm wandering what kind of glass to use. I assume double strength. But do I need to have shatterproof or antiglare type glass? Any advise would be appreciated.

If you go with glass I would get tempered. I've bought from onedayglass.com for several projects and have always been impressed with their service, quality and turn around time. I did a quick online quote for your size 3/16" thick and it was ~$26.

As mentioned acrylic would work as well. My only issue with acrylic is that it is harder to clean and more prone to scratches, but I use it on a ton of projects.
EDIT: for plastic I tend to use estreetplastics.com
