I am wanting to get back into woodworking at a point beyond the little dabbling I have been doing over the years. My build projects since high school have been workbenches, framing, miter cutting trim, siding, fencing and the like...

What I want to know is...
#1. How do I learn to pick up the various types of joinery? I am reading as much as I can, but I would LOVE to have someone who knows what they are doing, show me how.
#2. Where in the Houston metro area should I be looking for lumber sources? Lowes and Home Depot suck for lumber. Sure they are okay for framing studs and Hardi Panel, but for anything I would want to build something more refined than a workbench out of, forget it...
