I thought I would let everyone know that I recently got a job to make drawers to fit in an existing entertainment center and the customer loved them. I still need to finish the install but they look great and the best thing about it is that I got paid. It is amazing the feeling you get when someone hands you a check for the work that you have done.

Congratulations!. Yup, I remember the first paying job and the feeling that came with it.

I have people all the time say they're amazed at all
the "money" tied up in my shop.
I quickly reply "glad I didn't pay for it-my customers did"
Then I also remind them all the furniture in my house was free,
(not counting the wood costs) because of it.

But even if I never sold a thing, I built my own kitchen cabinets,
and that alone saved me more than my tools cost.
Point is, this is a great hobby, can last a lifetime and
will pay you back way more than it costs,
and in many ways besides money, and really beats
sitting on the couch!

paid to practice

since i'm still getting established, i've been saying that i'm not being paid to build stuff, i'm being paid by my customers to learn, practice and hone my skills - they just happen to get a product after i'm finished.
