Hi,

I am thinking of building an arbor similar to the one in the attached picture and since I no expert in the subject, I have a few questions:
  1. Can you recognize the kind of wood used in the picture?
  2. What kind of finish do you think was used? (oil?)
  3. How do one go about making the curve parts?

Thanks in advance for the help!!

Looks like western red cedar with a cedar stain to me. Curved supports would be made by laminating multiple planks together, then using bandsaw or jigsaw to contour into an arc.
Look closely and you can see the seams between planks. Suggest you check your local building codes prior to building.
Hard to tell by pic, but ledger is not anchored into wall properly and the box joint of beams to ledger is lacking support under.
Other than that she's pretty.
