I just acquired a mid 19th century treadle lathe and everything is in great shape... but I need a drive belt.

I know I can buy a 3"x66" from Tandy for $45 but I need a little longer belt than that. Anyone have any luck finding longer leather flat belts?

Even if I end up having to buy two that's fine - anyone know of a cheaper source?

Thanks!

Years ago, I had use of a water powered shop. Long leather belts running all over the shop ceiling to the different machines. There were ideler wheels that would be dropped on the belts when you wanted a particular machine running, it wasn't a direct drive off the flat belt without the ideler arm which applied the necessary pressure to the belt.

I found this link in an earlier thread. Link was by Woodnthings.

Thanks Dave,

I actually stumbled upon that a few minutes after posting and had a nice conversation with the guy, John. We are going to need belts for all of our line shaft tools and several treddle tools (including Barnes Tools) at the museum so he's going to help with getting the belts I need and acquiring a good lacer to maintain them... That will be a bit of time in the makings but I think I found a solution for my lathe until I can get a belt from John for it.

I'll post details when I get it fully figured out.
