Well guys after looking for a motor, the cost of the basic kit and other materials for the Flatmaster, I was at around $450 plus. Maybe $300 if i made my own drum. It would have been cheaper if I had a motor. 1/2 motor to the required specs was costing $175 and up.

I got this 12" ShopFox drum sander in very good condition with the rolling stand for $400. For now I think this was the best deal. I can still build a Flatmaster or sell this one and buy a bigger sander later.

I think it list for $779 although I thought I seen it cheaper when I first looked I can't find it now. So $400 seemed fair with the rolling stand. What do you guys think.

I really want one, just can not chose from drum or belt. I would love to see some reviews on this.
Well I'll give a review once I use it. It's heavy for its size I know that. Had to get it out my truck by myself.
looks like a lot of very nice machinery. congrats on the buy. do you think it wil be needing in/out feed tables?
I don't think so since I'm using its or mostly small pieces. We tested it a few times with about a 36" piece and that was fine. I will look into it as a possibility but the head is stationary so that would increase the difficulty of in and out feed tables.
