Down to the drawer pulls.. My partner decided to buy from ebay, some Chinese order and OF COURSE no screws and they're all metric so OF COURSE I went to Blowes and bought a box of non-metric screws and had to spend the rest of the day hunting for metric 4mx70 x 45 metric machine screws.. Damndest thing..I finally found em at Blowes.. Go figure..
All 32 are finally done.. Everything that could possibly make a days work turn into 3 days work did..but it's finally over.. Only 6 of 32 turned out to be the same size.. One of those oddball closet ideas.. Cabinet top goes on tomorrow and...PAY DAY! Yey..

I think most of the box stores carry metric screws today however they are expensive. The biggest problem I have is they don't carry very many of each different size. Also you see a lot of empty packages in the drawer where people are stealing them.

It did come out kind of nice after all..Thanks It's for a customer so yeah..custom job..
I'm still trying to convince my partner in this that going cheap on materials is going to be more expensive in the long run. He's beginning to realize that a few thousand bucks spread over a month or two isn't going to pay for his retirement fund anytime soon..lol
For me it's something to keep myself busy, but he has a family to feed and another 35 years of the grind to go and he wants to quit his job and do this full time. He's come a long way from the first job I helped him with though.
The screws were maddening, but oh well..I keep telling him that China ain't his friend.. The customer is happy despite the gap between 3rd & 4th drawers in the middle. I'll fix it for her if she asks.. For the time being I'm thoroughly sick of looking at these drawers..lol

Good thought process. I have owned two small businesses. A residential construction business and an architectural millwork business. My business model has always been start with the best materials available at the best price I can get them. You are absolutely right about China crap. I am retired now. I live in coastal SC and the only place for me to get decent cabinet grade plywood is two hours away in Charleston. I do have a cabinet supply shop a short distance away but more and more their wood products are all China crap. I needed 1 sheet of 1/2" maple prefin for the bottom of kitchen roll out drawers I was making. This is no exaggeration by any means. Not only was the thickness totally inconsistent when checked with calipers, the prefinished side looked must have been done by a bunch of Chinese children fingerpainting. I was trying to save time and I ended up having to sand the factory finish off and re-spray with CV. I widsh I still had my tax ID number so I could still buy at Wurth or Atlantic Plywood.

I'm up here in Elgin just east of Columbia.. I buy from Roy's wood products (cabinet supply house) in Lugoff..About $30 less than any box stores for plywood, but yeah..It's all from Vietnam and usually 23-32nds for "3/4".. Most is actually pretty decent plywood with very few voids... I just invested in a set of "metric" size router bits for dado's and such..

I did a bank one time that had like 90 small drawers in a cabinet. short little 4”x8” . I built the cabinets in say 10” sections about 4’ tall. Can’t remember exactly. Anyway they had their own installers. I get the call the installers are done and gone and all the drawers are on the floor. I spent I bet 4 hours trying to get the drawers in the right hole. They all had 1/8 gaps in between. ..

Something like this, I’ll hot glue with a 1/8 shim between. Easy in the shop, nightmare in the field…

You should be with me on a elevator putting up elevator panels.. Nobody comes near me..

Hot glue's a nice tip..Thanks.. I got tired of bending over every time for the spacers.. LOL
I noticed China apparently went into the utterly useless drawer installation jig business. Theo bought a few and within about 3 minutes I told him to get a refund..

Hot glue is pretty handy around the shop. There are different hot glues as well..

Ive stole both hot glue guns and old blow dryers from my wife. Great for laminate and veneer..
