hello all im building a farmhouse style table top out of 2x6s (pine). the customer wants me to leave tiny gaps between each of the slats to give its that old rustic look. The planks will not be glued together. I was wondering if I could use C- channel on the bottom of the table top for both structure and strength? I've used them on sold pieces of wood or tops that have been glued together but not with a table with gaps in-between the wood. would it make a difference? is it worth it? please any tips or ideas on this would be gratefully appreciated. thank you.

You could, but if it’s a typical apron type construction, I would just use cross brace between the aprons, but then only if the tabke is over 6 feet or so long.
