Hi there,

Does any one have any good exterior bench designs/plans? I've been asked to craft a tribute bench for a preschool teacher who recently passed. They would like wood, but I'm not keen on using pressure treated. I was thinking fir or cedar. I'm in New England so it needs to be able to hold up to the weather. Any help would be welcome. Thanks!

I'd use either Cedar, Cypress, Teak, or Redwood! They all have excellent weather resistance characteristcs.

I like her site. She's a little too into Krueger jigs and pocket screws, but her designs are simple and useful. Much of it has an "arts and crafts" feel.

Yeah, a lot of times, I take the design and modify it to suit my joinery style and methods.

I love it. It might be worth looking for naturally downed or felled redwoods from storms, erosion, age, etc. I have found that a good, natural story of the wood can enhance a very clean and simple tribute.
