It would be easier to try and determine an ID if you have taken pictures of the end grain before starting to turn.
Not so easy to ID at this point.
Try Phind's excellent site. You need to think of a species and then look it up to see the pictures. Lots of pictures of face, and end grain.
Woodcraft had been selling koa at my local store recently.

I have some pieces of what I think may be tineo, looks similar to yours. I have not seen this at my Woodcraft store.
