oa a small table top about 2ft by 2ft. would wood swelling be an issue if I were to glue a 1/2 inch piece of wood around the edge? Lets say the table top will be 3/4 inch thick maple with 1/2 inch of walnut trim edging

Is the Maple portion of the top glued up boards? If so, the Walnut on the end grain should not be glued. Or, just use 3/4" Maple plywood, and you can glue the edging all around.

Thats what I thought. Just hoping for a different answer. The Maple will be glued up boards. I like the contrastiong colors but I wont use ply. I have some maple that I need to use up.
