While I don't have first hand knowledge, I have read that the Jet isn't as good as the Powermax was before jet bought them out.

I was also thinking that some employees affiliated with Powermax started a new company but I can't think of their name. It seems to get good reviews.

Jet was once part of Powermatic. I wonder if the new company that owns it will be as good and will offer the same customer service. I bought a Grizzly shaper a while back and it was very cheaply made. I don't think it measured up to Harbor Freight tools so I wouldn't recommend Grizzly. As far as the type of sander you might be better off finding a used wide belt sander rather than a drum sander. Any drum sander I've ever used if the feed slips a little it will burn a deep dent into the wood which you could never get out.
