I'm getting ready to make a pen that requires a 37/64" hole for one of the tubes. As pen blanks go, that's pretty big hole. The 37/64" bit I got from WoodTurnersCatalog is a twist drill. Ordinarily, I'd use a forstner bit or a brad point. Are there any tips or warnings I should consider when drilling a hole this big with a twist drill?

It's an Artisan Gentlemen's Fountain Pen kit.

I don't have jaws to hold a pen blank on the lathe.

I'm sort of thinking about drilling it using a 1/2" Forstner bit and enlarging it using my drum sander.

I usually drill my blanks using the drill press. Ihave a vise with a V-Block. I have a scroll chuck, but I only have a set of dovetail jaws that won't hold a pen blank straight enough to drill.
