I have been trying to get as many as I could turned this week to finish. Since I got my chainsaw I have been processing the logs I have in the yard so there are plenty of blanks around. I loaded a bunch in the kiln and still have a stack in the shop and a huge pile of logs to go.
I have left this wood sitting for several months in the shade and some of it has some very cool things going on from color changes to spalting. One huge surprise was the Bradford pear that has some of the best color changes, almost like mineral staining. Since it turns like butter when green and really looks good I am turning several of these along with walnut, sweetgum, elm and box elder.
I throw the pieces in a closet for a few days to finish drying then apply whatever finish they need. I have a show on July 4th so I am trying to get as much done as I can.
