I'm trying to understand if I'm using this tool incorrectly or if it is defective. I get collisions when using the tool when backing out of a cut. It's a brand new tool--a gift from my wife.

Here's a close-up of the split pin colliding with the blade release latch.

Hi

That should not be happening, there should be a spring pushing it back into place. I would take it back and compare it to a different one.

In this picture you can see that there is a spring pushing it back.

It feels like there is a spring but it is not strong enough to return the blade holder to the resting position without assistance.

Should the blade holder even be able to collide with the blade release latch?

When I'm backing out of a material, the blade holder can get pulled forward and will collide with the blade release latch like in the video above. Forward movement can correct it.

I have another unit arriving today and will compare the two.
