Just an observation to pass on:thumbsup:

I have been experimenting with my planner lately, and something always bothers me. Every time I plane wood the board always seem to get stuck or it has a tendency to plane off to the left. I have been experimenting: first I cleaned the rollers with DNA and polished the bed and I still experienced the problem, and yes I have sharp blades. One thing I over looked was the "material removal gauge on the left side. A while ago I checked the floor model in HD and it takes a lot of pressure to activate this gauge and I never use it anyway, so I removed it and, guess what no more problems. I just planed 55 bf 4/4 of red oak 9" wide and 25 bf of 5/4 X 11 1/2" wide red oak. The only issue I had was with one board 5/4 that had a knot and it caused the board to stall. I might add that the 5/4 is a lot heaver than the 4/4 and it takes more effort for the rollers to move the board.

Try it and see if you get the same results.

I have not had any problems with my DW734 not feeding correctly. I do not like that depth gauge either, thanks for the info on removal. Do you think a Wixey gauge would work better?
I only take off 1/16" per pass, are you taking more off? FYI -- There are now HSS blades available for the 734 now.

I only take 1/32" off and I do have the Wixey but really never use it I just follow my progress using a digital cal. I could never really get the Wixey to calibrate. I wish they had the carbide tipped blades for the 734.

Awhile ago I had some issues with boards sticking in the planer.

I found a little automotive wax on the bed really made a difference.
