I have installed cherry countertops that I bought from Lumber Liquidators last year. I decided to saturate with mineral oil and then coated with oil and wax metled together. I've been pretty good about re-coating with oil and following with wax/oil monthly but I am already seeing some black water stains near the sink where water splatters frequently. The other day a few drops of bleach made it to the countertop. This ate through the oil and the wax. now I have some pretty obvious light blotches. Re-oiling has not helped this. I don't mind a little "patina" from use but I am beginning to reconsider my approach. I'd still like a food-safe finish but I'd probably prefer just sealing at this point.

Any advice? Now that the wood is oiled do I have any options for using a different finish method?
