Could someone recommend the correct handsaw to use to cut birch
plywood. Someone recommended the Japanese Plywood saw from Lee Valley. I've never used it and I'd like a 2nd opinion before I buy it.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

It would help if you told us what you were attempting to do. Size could matter.

Normally we don't think of a particular saw type for a species.

I need to cut shapes out of pieces of birch plywood. The pieces of plywood are about 10" X 8". I do not know which handsaw to buy.

If these are curves you probably need a coping saw if the parts are small or a turning saw / bow saw if the parts are large.

I've not had much success cleanly cutting plywood with hand saws, but I'm still working on technique. You may want to look into a jig saw or band saw depending on the scale of your plans.

A coping saw would allow you to scroll cut with detail. But if the curves aren't tight radius I'd use a jig saw instead.
