Total newbie question:

I bought a 3/8" spindle gouge when I first got my lathe, but I recently took a class where we used a gouge with more of a fingernail shape and I liked it.
Can I just grind the fingernail shape on my gouge, or do I need to buy a new tool? If I can grind the fingernail shape into my spindle gouge, what's the right grinding jig to use for that? Thanks.

YOu certainly can. Watch the last couple of minutes of this video and it will show you how I sharpen my detail gouge on the same jig as my bowl gouge.

Whoa!

Thanks for the video. I watched it; several of the freehand operations require more skill than I have.
