When you build your drawers I'd reccomend that you make them shallower than the DVDs and tapes on the sides so you'll be able to grip them at the edges. The drawer fronts will of course remain the same. Also, put spacers of at least 1/2 inch between rows of DVDs. The temptation to get them really tight is always there, but your frustration in trying to access them will be high. If you orient the DVDs so you can read what they are from above you'll be happier. I make my drawers with dados every inch or so to be able to drop in dividers wherever I like.
Good luck!

For the larger Jewel DVD cases, etc., I agree.

I am using the Thin Clam Shell cases where 3/16" allows them to be flipped thru them reading the titles, etc. very easily.

For the thicker Jewel type cases, I would cut a few dados to experiment with depth and spacing... for easy flip thru action.

My sides are 3.5" high (a little over half way) just enough to hold them in... nice to be able to see them from the side too.

I think you misunderstand me, the dados I cut are in the inside of the sides of the drawers only. Just to be able to put in a cross-piece to hold the cases up as the drawers fill. The thickness of the case doesn't matter. You'll be able to flip through them until the drawer gets full; as will eventually happen to any collection, that's why I'd reccomend the titles face up. Either way, You're certain to have it under control with Sam at your side! Good Luck!
