My beagle keeps eating the Desert Tortoises food and I’m trying to come up with something to prevent it. I’m hoping 6” opening will prevent the dog out.

The tortoise stands 7” tall, but can squeeze under a 6” obstruction. I measured the dogs head and it is 5” high, but I’m thinking that if I put the bowl in the center of a 18” sq box with open sides she will not be able to get in far enough to eat the food. I guess I could make it wider but I don’t want something too big taking up space.

I guess I'll have to check in to the invisible fence thing. A few people told me they tried it but it didn't work so well, but that was a long time ago and I'm sure technology has gotten better since than.

in the mean time I'm going to setup a test using some concrete blocks and an 18x18" plywood just see. I'll stick a piece of meat in there to see if she gets it.

Well that was stupid

The bigger dog nabed the bait in less than a second. It will have to be rectangle shaped with the narrow sides closed in and maybe 3ft long if I build it at all. The trick will be getting the Tortoise to go in the tunnel. Maybe if I use slats on the sides so it looks open it will see the food. :smile:

Am I the only one that wants to see a picture of a beagle and a tortoise together?

The design was a total failure. I was just looking for something fun to build. Ended up with a couple of concrete blocks and a scrap 4'x4' plywood with a block on top. Harder to put the food in, but oh well its better than a fence
