What's the best way to repair a broken rocker on a rocking chair. I have an old cherry rocker and an oak one. Cherry rocker has one broken rocker. Oak has both broken. I was thinking if cutting a kerf in the bottom of the rockers and glung in a spline. Whaddya think?

rebuilt rockers

I completely rebuilt an old rocker with broken rockers. The bottom of the rockers were worn badly and the holes were elongated. I drew a line along the bottom of the rocker and ran it the length of the rocker from end to end. I cut along this line with my band saw and smoothed with my sander. I then cut, glued and clamped 3 or 4 thin oak strips to the bottom of the rockers, where I had cut. I also glued any break that I came upon. I think I used a spline also, can't remember now. After all was set up, I sanded the sides smooth and cut off/sanded the end pieces, Next I used a half inch round over bit in my router to round the rockers off. I found a stain that closely matched and applied. Worked very well.
