I am going to be building a bookshelf out of 3/4 Cherry ply and was wondering if I could get some ideas from some of you regarding finishing the edges of the front. Thanks if advance.

If you can find some cherry veneer in your wood store you could glue that onto the edges. Many building stores carry veneer in strip form rolled up.

If you want to add rigidity, you can make a face frame from solid cherry and glue it to the front (including non-movable shelves). Then glue strips of solid cherry banding to the fronts of the movable shelves.

There are several ways to make face frames. I've used pocket screws.
