Couldn't start the job this week until tomorrow and I really need a boat. I started building a 12' jon boat today. Plywood bottom and sides with ash and cherry rails. I think it's going to look great and hopefully it won't leak. I'm taking the digital camera over today but I snapped this one with my cell phone camera.

making a boat

in the early 50s we made a couple of dinghys from hardboard. trade name was Masonite and it was exterior grade. Very simple construction,
cut a couple of boards for the base, then attached masonite sheet which bent easily to shape. sides built up using gusset plates and ribs just screwed to masonite.

finally added a deck. both boats were sailed close inshore around thames estuary and also used a small johnson MS38 outboard. great fun and cost only a few pounds.
