This is the first project I used dovetails on and I'm very pleased the way they turned out even if they are machine cut.

It's made out of red oak with Purple Heart splines in the base.

Looks really good Paarker! I'm jealous of the dovetails machine cut or not. I've been wanting to build one of these and I really want to try dovetails as well. What type of jig did you use?

Thanks for the link. I'm starting to think a dovetail jig is going to be my next purchase. Any reason you went with this one over the Porter Cable or the like?

Also, what type of wood did you use for the chest?

That's the one a friend of mine had so that's what I used. I have an Incra router table fence if I ever learn how to use it but I didn't want to try to cut the long sides with that.

I used red oak for all the chest with some Purple Heart splines for the base.

I hope to really get into chest and box making in the future, hopefully for selling. That chest looks awsome!

Great looking and sturdy chest. With those beautiful dovetails and splines, I'm sure they will last long even for generations. Well done!
