Hello, I'm building a blanket chest and on the underside of the top I would like to put two braces to help the top from cupping over the years. I know when I do this I need to allow for the wood movement. I was just going to use screws but will an oversize hole leave enough room for the expansion and contraction?

Thanks for any help you can give.

You don't have to elongate the holes. If you don't put too many screws in it, the screws will give instead of splitting the top.
