I have a mini lathe which takes a 15/32" post tool rest. I am having a hard time finding extra tool rests in that size, would it be a bad choice to drill out the banjo to take 1/2" tool rest posts? The banjo has plenty of metal around and being cast iron I have no concerns drilling it out. Any suggestions?

It should not be a problem imho. That said, are you trying cold rolled 1/2 steel or hardware store rod? Also, it may be metric; 12mm is only off about 3/1,000" from 15/32.

Ive measured with crescent wrenches, and a drill bit. As well as confirming with the specs of the new model of this lathe. I already have a 1/2 post tool rest so I well probably just go ahead and drill it out.

should not hurt a thing. Im thinking about drilling my 5/8" Delta banjo out to 3/4. 3/4 rests are hard to find but many of the 5/8" tools rests have broken. Poor design mostly but I had 3/4" posts on my Nova comet and used steel rests instead of cast. They worked much better.
