Would apple wood be a sufficiently close enough grain for and end grain butcher bloc or cutting board?

I've worked with apple in cutting boards but biggest problem I have is didn't have enough good boards it like to check out when its drying out, turned a lot of apple to.

What is a good use for apple wood then if it is prone to cracking when drying?
