Want to make a special lamp with a base of turned wood. Have a really great piece of Lacewood but no idea if it would turn well or if the spectacular figure would be lost. Anyone ever turned any?

I have turned a lacewood platter and it turned out well. I suspect the grain will be less spectacular turned along the length

I've turned a bunch of pens from lacewood and they came out pretty good--nice figure showing on them. I'd go for it!

I've used it in several humidors and a jewelry box. I still have some left that I bought some 14 years ago. I love the wood.

I've turned a bunch of Lacewood mirrors. Great stuff but you need to avoid sanding with the coarser grits. It has hard spots and soft spots and if you start sanding with a coarse grit it starts getting lumpy and is exagerated with each succeeding grit. I turn the lathe speed up and take a final pass with a really sharp tool to eliminate all but the high grits of sandpaper
