Hello everyone,
I have a coffee table made out of poplar and was wondering if anyone had any experience using Charlie Neils Pre Conditioner? Or does anyone have a cheaper solution to prevent the blotching of poplar wood? Just going to use a minwax stain with a polyurethane finish. Any recommandations would be appriciated.

I love it. I too used poplar for a test run on an upcoming cherry blanket chest. I used it as directed and applied water based dye and it all came out in an aged cherry appearance. I did not save my mixing formula. I have some left and will have to take it to the store and have them replicate it.

If your using an oil based stain, often one coat is all you need, but be sure to test on scrap first.
